American Idol alum to visit McAllen nightclub |

About 150 people are expected to attend a one-hour seminar Saturday at Prada Night Club (131 East Nolana) featuring Edinburg native Gavin Navarro, from Gigi Entertainment and former American Idol alum Justin Guarini.
The seminar will feature friendly advice from Navarro, a Los Angeles celebrity consultant, and Guarini, a singer/actor who received international acclaimed when he went to the last round of the FOX reality TV show American Idol. Guarini lost the title to Fort Worth-area native Kelly Clarkson.
The seminar begins at 3 p.m. and features an opportunity to talk with Navarro and Guarini about their successes/failures in Hollywood.
The two will talk to the group about the ups and downs of the Hollywood business, what aspiring entertainers will need to get ahead of their competition and the best way to start in the business.
“There are a lot of misconceptions out there,” said Giselle Gonzalez, owner of Pulse Magazine and co-partner of Gigi Entertainment. “And we really want to clear (the air) and help people get ahead.”
Some of the topics include organizing a casting reel, getting headshots and other easy, but time consuming items.
“Sometimes all people bring into an audition are headshots (when they need a reel tape),” Gonzalez said. “So they just wasted everyone’s time.”
Admission to the seminar is $200 a person.
“It can get very expensive to cover the cost to bring these people down,” Gonzalez said. “But this isn’t going to be the only one. We’re planning to have other celebrities, actors, agents and models come as well.”
Gonzalez said people like Navarro and Guarini are coming down to McAllen to find new talent. However, with the recent box-office bomb of From Justin to Kelly, a musical featuring the two ‘02 American Idols, and being released from his RCA Records deal, the guy with the flashy smile and kewpie-doll hair might just be looking for a new gig.
“Justin is really busy,” Gonzalez said. “He just wants to come down here and help give people advice on how to help their career. Right now, though, he just wants to focus on his acting.”
