Justin Guarini, the runner-up in the first "American Idol" competition, has a leading role in "Good Vibrations," a musical-in-progress filled with Beach Boys music, which will be given a workshop production from July 29 through Aug. 1 by New York Stage and Film at Vassar College, Playbill On-Line reported. John Carrafa, who is directing and choreographing the show with a book by Richard Dresser, said it was not a biography of the Beach Boys but a "hybrid, somewhere between `Mamma Mia!' and `Movin' Out.' ".

Guarini to Star in 'Good Vibrations'
NEW YORK - Justin Guarini will star in "Good Vibrations," premiering July 29 at Vassar College's new Martel Theater. "Good Vibrations," described as a high-energy celebration of the music of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys, follows the romantic misadventures of a group of teens "on a life-changing odyssey" to the beaches of Southern California. The workshop-like performance of the musical as it progresses is part of the New York Stage and Film's 20th-anniversary Powerhouse season at Vassar, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. "Good Vibrations" will run through Aug. 1. Guarini, 25, is most famous for finishing second in the first "American Idol" season on Fox television. He starred in the 2003 film "From Justin to Kelly" with fellow Idol Kelly Clarkson.
